Speech for Mr. Mike Owen, State Manager Mail Operations Australia Post Western Australia

The Postmaster General of Hong Kong Post, Mr. P. C. LUK, other distinguished guests, colleagues and friends from the media.

I am honoured to represent Australia Post and the Western Australian Wine Industry Association at this most significant ceremony to mark the launch of the Wine Fulfilment Service in Hong Kong. Our Managing Director Graeme John sends his congratulations and best wishes on the launch of the new International Fulfilment Service for Hong Kong residents.

The new Wine Fulfilment Offer will provide a unique link between individual wine connoisseurs in Hong Kong and leading boutique wineries in the South West of Western Australia. Jointly, Hong Kong Post and Australia Post take great delight in assisting the business community to promote trade and enhance their reputation, particularly within the Asia Pacific region. Within the wine industry, the Western Australian Wine Industry Association represents over 200 boutique wineries many of which have premium wines not readily available in the retail export market.

Now such boutique wineries can promote their product directly to Hong Kong consumers and utilise Hong Kong Post's "Order/Payment/Delivery Fulfilment Service". This type of innovative venture cannot work without the whole-hearted co-operation of those involved. I would like to acknowledge the outstanding collaboration and advice that Australia Post has received from the Product Development team of Hong Kong Post.

Special mention must also be made of the significant support we have received from: Mr Cristopher Rees, Senior Trade Commissioner Austrade and Cathay Pacific Cargo. Our team in Australia Post in Western Australia see this promotion of the Heartwood wine collection as the beginning of many exciting offers allowing businesses to promote, sell and deliver their export boutique products to customers for their personal consumption. We are already in preliminary discussions with interests in the confectionery, olive oil, and natural cosmetics industries - just to mention a few. I'm sure that this ceremony marks the commencement of a very successful International Fulfilment Service which will benefit the people and the business community in both our countries.
