It is Hongkong Post's policy to provide environmentally friendly public offices and workplace for its customers and staff. Guided by this commitment, Hongkong Post today (November 18) launched Hong Kong's first ever LPG Mobile Post Office in a maiden journey to Lam Tsuen, Tai Po, New Territories. With a view to providing better service and facilities to the customers, this new Mobile Post Office has adopted a new design and equipped with a tropical roof, a LCD monitor for displaying public notices, an electronic weight as well as a retractable canopy providing protection against sunlight and rain for customers in front of the counters.

"The first Hong Kong Mobile Post Office was introduced on March 14, 1960. Presently there are three Mobile Post Offices in operation, providing convenient postal services for residents living in rural and remote areas in the New Territories. The use of LPG vehicles for these Post Offices can help reduce vehicle emissions and provide a cleaner environment for our staff, customers and local residents," said Assistant Postmaster General (Corporate Development) Mr Tsang Kwok-lam, at the launch ceremony today at Lam Tsuen.

The launch ceremony was officiated by Mr Tsang Kwok-lam; Chairman, Recreation, Sports and Cultural Affairs Committee, Tai Po District Council, Mr Chu King-yuen and representative of Fong Ma Po Tsuen, Lam Tsuen, Mr Wong Tin-san. In addition, Lam Tsuen Primary School students attended the event as part of its public educational programme.

The LPG Mobile Post Office is Mobile Post Office No.3, operating Monday to Friday and currently providing postal services at 15 locations in the eastern part of the New Territories, including Princes of Wales Hospital, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Tai Po Industrial Estate, Ma Mei Ha and Lam Tsuen. The other two Mobile Post Offices, Nos.1 and 2, will also be changed to LPG vehicles before the end of this financial year.
